Dhammacetiya

The highest blessing

In this world, there are two types of people whom we can never repay enough: Mother and Father. No matter what we do, nothing can fully repay the sacrifices and efforts of our parents in nurturing and educating us. Our parents have done so much for us, from raising us to bringing us into this world.

As children, we repay their kindness by striving to help and support them to the best of our abilities. The Buddha affirmed that gratitude and repaying kindness make one a true noble being. In the Mangala Sutta, the Buddha identified thirty-eight factors leading to supreme happiness, one of which is honoring and caring for parents, which is the highest blessing (mātāpitu upaṭṭhānaṃ etaṃ maṅgalamuttamaṃ).
