Dhammacetiya

Just know the present

If a person does not comprehend the present moment, he or she should not harbor expectations for the future. Without a clear understanding of the present, the future remains an illusion. One who clearly perceives the present vividly sees how everything is at the present moment and will have the future as usual, even without dwelling on it.

Therefore, don’t assume that being wholly present equals to having no future. To have a future, the only way is to be fully aware of the present moment. There is no other way. If a certain percentage of the present is lost, a corresponding percentage will be lost in the future. The more adept you are at understanding the present, the more promising of a future you will have.

The same applies to peacefulness, which can only be cultivated in the present. If peacefulness prevails in the present, it will endure. However, if the present is not peaceful, peacefulness will be absent at any other time.
