NOTICE OF MERITORIOUS DEEDS

On May 24, 2022, Hương Đạo Temple, Fort Worth, Texas, USA, hosted the 2022 Vesak and the Laying-the-First-Stone Ceremony for the Ancient Sacred Buddhist Scripture Stupas – Dhammacetiya project. The event took place under the auspices of Venerable Elders from various countries such as Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Laos, Cambodia, and was joyfully attended by numerous devotees near and far.

Following the ceremony, the Dhammacetiya project gained widespread recognition within the international Buddhist community. During their visit to the United States, Most Venerable Somdej Phra Mahathirachan, Most Venerable Phra Dhamvajarabandit – Rector of the International Buddhist University Chulalongkorn, Most Venerable Phra Thambodhiwong, along with the missionary delegation of Thai monks, Most Venerable Sayadaw Bhaddanta Gandhamalalankara from Myanmar, and other esteemed Venerable Elders from Sri Lanka, Laos, and Cambodia graciously visited Hương Đạo Temple. They offered Dhamma talks and chanted blessings for the successful completion of the Dhammacetiya project.

The Venerable Elders not only offered encouragement but also made significant donations, including Buddha relics, Buddha statues, Tipiṭaka on palm leaves, and financial contributions:
– Most Venerable Somdej Phramahathirachan donated and established the Somdej Phramahathirachan fund for the construction of the Ancient Sacred Buddhist Scripture Stupas project.
– Most Venerable Khantidhammo Pháp Nhẫn, Patriarch of the Vietnamese Theravada Sangha in the United States, donated a small stupa.
– Most Venerable Puṇṇobhāso Viên Minh from Bửu Long Pagoda, Saigon, Vietnam, donated a small stupa.
– Cambodian monks donated a small stupa.
– Burmese monks in the United States donated a small stupa.
– Thai monks in the United States donated a small stupa.
– Devotees near and far donated over 30 small stupas, 9 medium stupas, Buddha statues, and bronze scripture tablets.
The total value of donations for the entire project thus far amounts to $4,445,949 (four million, four hundred forty-five thousand, nine hundred forty-nine USD).

After nearly 3 years of preparation including architectural design, drainage system surveys, traffic flow analysis, geological evaluations, rezoning efforts, and the establishment of the Board of Advisors and Executive Committee, the preliminary stage of the project is nearing completion. With the consent of the Abbot of Hương Đạo Temple, Most Venerable Ratanaguṇa Bửu Đức, we are pleased to announce the organization of three major ceremonies from April 25 to May 4, 2025, to mark the significant milestone of commencement of this sacred historical construction:
– The First Tipiṭaka Pāḷi Chanting Ceremony in the USA (Reciting the three baskets of scriptures: Vinaya, Sutta, and Abhidhamma).
– The Groundbreaking Ceremony for the construction of the Dhammacetiya project.
– The International Vesak Day (Hương Đạo Temple invites international Sangha to attend the Vesak ceremony. This ceremony is different from the United Nations Vesak Day – ICDV – International Council for Day of Vesak).

Dear Venerable Elders and respected monks and nuns,
Dear lay devotees,

Organizing a grand ceremony poses significant challenges, especially with the long-distance travels and logistical difficulties faced by Venerable Elders and Sangha members worldwide. However, the presence of the Venerable Elders and the Sangha members is essential for the groundbreaking ceremony of the Dhammacetiya project and the other two ceremonies. Therefore, we humbly request your compassionate support in these events.

The organizing committee also extends this “Notice of Meritorious Deeds” to all the lay devotees near and far, encouraging participation in this opportunity to cultivate merit. Each person, when creating merit, has a “Great Wholesome Heart” and follows their individual inclinations: some prefer to share and donate food (merit for health and beauty); others contribute to transportation (merit for happiness and convenience); some offer light, scriptures, books, and education (merit for wisdom and good eyesight); while others joyfully offer accommodations or contribute to the construction of temples and stupas (five long-lasting merits).

To facilitate joyful participation in these three grand ceremonies, the organizing committee will provide a list of needed items. You can choose an item to support according to your means and joyful spirit by contacting the organizing committee.

The success of these grand ceremonies depends on the compassionate support of the Venerable Elders, monks and nuns, as well as the sincere faith and meritorious deeds of devotees near and far, both domestically and internationally.

We humbly prostrate in gratitude before the Venerable Elders and Sangha members who have encouraged and assisted us throughout this journey. May your four elements be in harmony, allowing us to always seek refuge under your compassionate guidance.

The organizing committee sincerely prays for the blessings of the Triple Gem and the protective power of the deities to be with all lay devotees. May your homes be filled with peace and harmony, and may you diligently cultivate goodwill and nurture the Dhamma, so that you may experience long-lasting peace and happiness.
