Following the Buddha’s Footsteps Journal – Day 9

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Having instant noodles everyday is real! But today is a very special day. This morning at the Thai temple our menu was changed: no longer “instant noodles”, which is replaced with “porridge.” In the morning as the cold mist blanketed everywhere, holding a bowl of hot porridge cooked with roots and vegetables and a few shreds of ginger really warmed up the heart. We had a place to rest and hot porridge to eat after strenuous days. As if the blessing bore fruit, at 8am the Sangha dressed up and carried bowls to another Thai temple nearby. The Abbot made an offering of rice and noodles to the Sangha for lunch. There was a full menu of steamed rice, noodles, fruits, coffee, and milk tea. After lunch, the group bid farewell to the two temples that provided shelter, food, and treatment to the Sangha to continue the journey. The Abbot was waiting by the roadside to send the Sangha off. The Dhamma brotherly love is always beautiful in every aspect that is beyond comparison.

The leader of the Sangha knelt down to pay respects and express gratitude to the Abbot for fully and thoroughly taking care of the Sangha. How precious, ladies and gentlemen, it is to be offered such a hearty lunch full of Dhamma aroma – it’s not at all easy. I felt so touched by seeing the two emotional Venerables hug each other in a brotherly embrace. What a beautiful image of a Venerable Abbot who expressed his heartfelt respect and admiration for the unyielding will of the monks, meticulously led by the leader of the Sangha. As for the leader of the Sangha, he devoted his whole heart of gratitude for the support that the Abbot had given the group, which can be considered a healthy meal to make up for the past few days. It was as if he was adding oil to light up the flickering lamps that were about to go out. Indeed, it is not easy to travel by foot with a fast speed of 45 km per day, to stay up late and wake up early, and to stop only for breakfast and lunch.

We walked past elementary schools and middle schools. The students were excited and waved to the Sangha. Perhaps this image is very unfamiliar to them, I think. After 18 km, we came to a stop at an empty lot near the main road. In the distance are majestic mountains full of green trees.

What is the roadmap for the coming days? … You are welcome to follow along with the Sangha!
