I am grateful to the Buddha
For leading the way to the light
Dispelling all prejudices
Extinguishing all cravings

I am grateful to my parents
For blood, flesh and life
Youth and happiness
Having sacrificed their lives for me

I am grateful to my teachers
Both religious and secular
For growing my awareness
Of the harshness of life

I am grateful to fellow devotees
And those I’m indebted to
For giving me warmth and love
In the midst of a turbulent life

Last but not least, I am grateful
To all sentient beings
In both my past lives and the present life
May you all be at peace
