Venerable Bhikkhu Paññākāra, founder and guiding monastic leader of Walk for Peace, has been selected as a recipient of a Courage Project Award, presented by The Courage Project and its partners, in recognition of his leadership in promoting compassion, nonviolence, and interfaith harmony.
This recognition honors the profound impact of Walk for Peace — a 2,300-mile mindful journey from Fort Worth, Texas to Washington, D.C. — undertaken as a living expression of peace, compassion, and collective awakening. Throughout the journey, the Saṅgha and supporters engaged communities across diverse backgrounds, fostering dialogue, healing, and interfaith solidarity rooted in nonviolence.
The award recognizes Walk for Peace as a powerful demonstration of courageous community engagement and spiritual leadership at a time when compassion and unity are deeply needed. Since its public launch in May 2025, The Courage Project has recognized individuals whose actions embody moral courage and contribute meaningfully to the well-being of society.
As part of this honor, Venerable Bhikkhu Paññākāra has been invited to direct a $20,000 grant toward a nonprofit organization aligned with values of compassion, service, and positive social transformation. This “pay it forward” model ensures that the spirit of courage continues to ripple outward, benefiting communities in need. The grant will be recommended through the fiscal sponsor, Amalgamated Charitable Foundation.
The award is supported by a distinguished network of philanthropic partners, including CFLeads, Freedom Together Foundation, The James Irvine Foundation, MacArthur Foundation, Kenneth Rainin Foundation, Marguerite Casey Foundation, McKnight Foundation, Pisces Foundation, Public Welfare Foundation, The Skillman Foundation, and Surdna Foundation.
In keeping with the noble spirit of Walk for Peace, this recognition is received not as a personal achievement, but as a shared offering dedicated to the collective efforts of the Saṅgha, volunteers, and countless well-wishers who have supported the journey with faith and goodwill.
Walk for Peace stands as a reminder that mindful steps, grounded in loving-kindness and wisdom, can become a powerful path toward reconciliation and peace in society. Through quiet endurance, interfaith outreach, and compassionate presence, the journey has inspired many to cultivate nonviolence in thought, speech, and action.
The Courage Project publicly announced its latest slate of honorees, including Venerable Bhikkhu Paññākāra, on March 5, 2026, with further coordination regarding public recognition and storytelling to follow.
With gratitude and humility, the Walk for Peace community receives this recognition as a shared offering — a testament to the enduring power of compassion in action for the benefit and peace of all beings.
May you and all beings be well, happy and at peace. 🙏
