Vesak is one of the most sacred observances in the Buddhist calendar, honoring the Birth, Enlightenment, and Passing (Parinirvana) of the Buddha. It is a time for venerable monks and all who cherish peace to gather, reflecting on the timeless message of peace, mindfulness, loving-kindness, compassion and unity to carry that light forward into the world.
For nine days (May 2–10, 2026), the venerable monks of the Walk for Peace, together with many other venerable monks from various traditions, will gather at the Hương Đạo Vipassana Bhavana Center in Fort Worth, TX, creating a space of stillness and shared intention for all.
This year’s celebration carries a truly rare blessing. For the first time, a Sacred Exposition of the Buddha Relics — a national treasure of Sri Lanka — will be held, alongside a living Bodhi Tree Sapling descended from the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka. This ancient tree is a verified living descendant of the original Bodhi Tree in Bodh Gaya, India, beneath which the Buddha sat in deep meditation and attained enlightenment over 2,500 years ago.
Throughout the nine days, programs will include peace talks, meditation sessions, sacred text chanting, food offerings to the venerable monks, the luminous lighting of 24,000 candles for world peace, and more. (Full schedule to be announced — programs are subject to change as planning continues.)

Volunteer support is needed from now through May 30, 2026 — before, during, and after the celebration — as there is much meaningful work to be done in preparing and caring for this sacred gathering. Every presence, every pair of hands, and every open heart is a gift.
