Dhammacetiya

Sri Lanka, August 3, 2025

Sri Lanka Day 7
August 3, 2025

At 6 a.m., our delegation arrived at the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy to pay homage and venerate the Tooth Relic of the Blessed One. Each of us had the opportunity to enter, pay our respects, chant suttas, and depart with joy filling our hearts.
Amid the gentle morning drizzle, the blessed rain softly nourishes the earth.

We then left the temple briefly to visit the monastery of Venerable Wimalakitti for a lunch offering sponsored by Nun Trí Huệ from Canada–an expression of gratitude to the venerable teachers and a heartfelt prayer for the successful completion of the Dhammacetiya project. Venerable Wimalakitti’s monastery is one of the Royal Temples from Sri Lanka’s last ruling dynasty. We paid homage, presented our Dhamma undertakings, and respectfully invited the Most Venerable Abbot to serve as a spiritual witness for next year’s grand ceremony.

Under the seasonal rain, the entire delegation returned to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic for a meeting with the Sangha, government representatives, and the Temple Management Committee regarding the Dhammacetiya project, the upcoming Vesak program, and the Tipiṭaka Recitation Ceremony. The meeting took place in a serene and joyful atmosphere.

After the meeting, our group attended the National Sacred Relic Procession held in the heart of Kandy. Hundreds of thousands of people filled the streets, accompanied by drums, horns, and traditional dances. The solemn yet vibrant atmosphere left a profound impression on us, showcasing the rich spiritual heritage and the deep devotion of the Sri Lankan people toward the Buddha and His teachings.
