The Saṅgha and lay devotees representing the Dhammacetiya Project were present at the government’s press conference, hosted by Mr. Sisira and Mr. Chameera, officials in charge of Sri Lanka’s government media communications.
The press conference included the following key topics:
– The Dhammacetiya Project
– Request to receive the Buddha’s relics
– Request to receive a Bodhi tree sapling
– Sharing the Dhamma propagation in the West
– Plans for the 2026 International Vesak Celebration
On the same day, we visited the government office of the Minister of Religious Affairs of Sri Lanka to plan for the collaboration in organizing the 2026 Vesak Celebration in Texas, US. The Minister warmly welcomed the information about the project and expressed his delight in supporting the Dhammacetiya initiative. He also pledged his full assistance in facilitating the necessary procedures by Sri Lanka for next year’s event in Texas.
Finally, we visited Hunupitiya Gangaramaya Temple in Colombo to pay homage to the Sacred Hair Relic of the Buddha and held a meeting with Bhante Dr. Kirinde Assaji, the abbot of this renowned relic temple. The Sacred Hair Relic of the Buddha enshrined at this temple was an offering from the government of Bangladesh to the government of Sri Lanka for safekeeping during a period of war and civil unrest in Bangladesh.
The outcome of this important meeting will be announced soon.
