When our Marketing team members for the Dhammacetiya project arrived at Bodhgaya for the first few days, we saw this older gentleman. He has dark skin. His facial features showed signs of hardship and aging. He sells blankets to pilgrims from all over the world. He usually stands near our booth. As visitors stopped by to inquire about the project, he also asked them to purchase his blankets. He was not able to sell much. Only a few people, a lady in our group and I, were able to help him out.
As each day went by, he listened while we introduced the project. Conveniently, there was an Indian gentleman who interpreted for him about the Dhammacetiya project and the significance of our work. He said, “I would like to make a donation when I have the money.” So that was that.
Today, with the same appearance and manner, he returned and donated 100 rupees (equivalent to $1.20) for the Stupas. The amount was not large but came from his all-day standing and selling. That money could be his family’s meal or the fund to continue his business. However, he chose to give away and made an offering – what an enormous wholesome deed, a truly great cause. We are so joyful about his gesture!
Sadhu! Sadhu! Sadhu!
